THE British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP) expressed its support for the recent developments in cybersecurity in the Philippines to leverage further the collaboration with the United Kingdom’s cybersecurity excellence.

“The UK has a great depth of skill and experience in that area. I think that is one of the key things going forward. We had an event with one of our members, CyberQ, [and] at the same time, the British Embassy who we worked with closely, Ambassador Beaufils. And also, the UK Trade Commissioner Martin Kent, based in Singapore, they had an event highlighting cybersecurity in January of this year,” BCCP Executive Director/Trustee Chris Nelson said in a recent interview.

Nelson also took note of the third State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on upskilling the workforce: “Advanced learning systems and technologies, in the areas of robotics, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things, shall be made available in TVET Innovation Centers nationwide. Highly technical and professional-level training courses will soon be launched, notably in cybersecurity and in the creative industries.”

“The key is to keep opening up that market and developing skills in those areas. The Chamber and the British Embassy are very keen to work with the government to improve cybersecurity skills,” Nelson added.

BCCP has also expressed its support for the recent passage of the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act to safeguard the financial industry, which is a significant move to increase investor trust and confidence in doing their business in the Philippines while also reiterating its support for the Cybersecurity Act, to strengthen the cyber infrastructure further to reinforce the country as an investment destination in the region.
