Upon its lapsing into law on Aug. 24, 2025, the Konektadong Pinoy Act serves as a significant measure that can further assist the Philippine digital transformation agenda, according to the British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP).
The act, alongside other complementary measures such as the E-Governance Act and Cybersecurity Act are also urged to be passed under the 20th Congress.
In its statement, the Chamber noted that, “This landmark measure is expected to play a vital role in reinforcing its digital transformation agenda by strengthening access to reliable and affordable internet services throughout the country. With greater interconnectivity, it also paves the way for stronger digital access, cybersecurity measures, increased investment opportunities in the telecommunication sector and expanded e-governance.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan cited the measure’s significance towards achieving the objectives outlined in the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023–2028, particularly in advancing country’s digital transformation agenda and narrowing the digital gap.
Secretary Balisacan noted that, “Reliable and affordable internet means more students, especially those in remote areas of the country, can gain access to online learning resources. Micro, small and medium enterprises can reach broader markets, while clinics can deliver telehealth to those who are unable to travel to regional centers…”
This has also aligned with the Philippines’ international standing in terms of e-Governance, after its recent awarding by the United Nations of UN E-Government Award, which is a clear signal to domestic and foreign investors that the country provides a conducive, secure, and well-connected business environment.
BCCP Executive Vice Chair Chris Nelson looks forward to the drafting of the IRR and welcomes the public-private collaborative insights, he then said in an interview that, “This will support the digital economy. We want to see the Philippines moving forward, we want to see a much more integrated connectivity. We are an ARTA Champion and we have been stronger advocates of e-Governance Act and Cybersecurity Act and we would like to see its passage under the 20th Congress.”
