The Philippines and the United Kingdom are deepening economic ties after their second Joint Economic and Trade Committee, or JETCO, with a focus on turning government discussions into concrete trade and investment opportunities. British Chamber of Commerce Philippines Chairman Chris Nelson joins the show to discuss the newly finalized financing framework that allows UK Export Finance to consider Philippine infrastructure projects, with up to £5 billion in capacity available.

Nelson also examines what it will take for Philippine projects to reach financing, the next wave of UK investment in renewable energy and offshore wind, potential cooperation on civil nuclear energy, and the push to modernize the grid and ports. He also discusses the UK-Philippines trade relationship, cybersecurity and digital finance legislation, the proposed renegotiation of the Double Taxation Agreement, and opportunities for British pork exporters following the increase in the Philippines’ pork Minimum Access Volume.

Tune in as Chris Nelson looks at what needs to happen next for JETCO to translate into major investments, contracts, and greater trade between the Philippines and the UK.
